Make no “butts” about it

New Member and Conservation Department Co-Chair Denise Carleton reports that she and a team of volunteers are feeling the burn after a trash pickup last Saturday:

“Make no “butts” about it that cigarettes were abundant and disgusting. Thanks to everyone who came out to help out and to Tammie Fowler for organizing. We picked up 9 bags of trash and a plastic bumper.”

Denise also shared this article about cigarette litter.

Conservation Supports Keep Forsyth County Beautiful

Keep Forsyth County Beautiful (KFCB) held its awards banquet on Tuesday, September 11 at Piney Grove Middle School.  This annual event recognizes schools, community members and businesses for their environmental initiatives and efforts in the county.

Sawnee Woman’s Club is a KFCB business partner and contributes a donation to their Educator of the Year.  This year’s Educator of the Year was Bryan Biccum of Liberty Middle School.  Ms. Stovall, the school’s principal, accepted the award and club gift on behalf of Mr.  Biccum in his absence.

In addition to this award, twenty Forsyth County Schools received Green School designations in gold, silver and bronze levels at the event.  This is the most schools ever to apply for and receive Green School designations since the program’s inception.

9/11 – 10 year Memorial Ceremony

A  10-year Memorial Ceremony of 9/11 at Liberty Garden is to be held on 9/11/11.  This is currently being planned with Keep Forsyth Beautiful to remember all  those that lost their lives that dreadful day and to  honor our current safety officials.

A strategic planning committee is forming to help plan the ceremony events.

SWC has spent many hours in helping to create and maintain Liberty Garden and is honored to be a play a role in planning and implementing the event.
