Why Should I Support SWC?

Because you want to help children and families in our community.

Because you understand the role that women play in improving and strengthening our communities.

Because you care.

Whatever the reason that you give, we want you to know that your contribution makes a difference. Here are answers to common questions about Sawnee Woman’s Club (SWC).

What does the Sawnee Woman’s Club do?

It’s our mission to advocate for and provide funds to children, families, and charitable organizations to meet the needs of our community.

Our unique department structure (Arts, Conservation, Education, Home Life, International Affairs, Public Affairs) allows our Club to focus on multiple projects and areas of service simultaneously. Our members are required to complete 30 hours of volunteer service, as well as attend meetings and solicit donations.

Who benefits from my donation?

Contributions to Sawnee Woman’s Club are used to serve the unmet needs of children, families and charitable organizations in Forsyth County. Our service projects are 100% funded by donations. For the 2011-2012 Club year, our projects include:

  • Sacks of Love: providing over-the-weekend meals to elementary school children in poverty
  • Forsyth County Transition Center: providing toiletries, clothing, backpacks and supplies to school children in need
  • Culture for Kids: introducing performing arts to underprivileged children
  • Academic Scholarships: awarding tuition funds to promising high school seniors
  • Arts Scholarships: awarding tuition funds for a teen to participate in arts-intensive programs
  • Keep Forsyth County Beautiful: maintaining the cleanliness of an adopted road in Cumming, encouraging recycling efforts in schools and in the home, recycling Christmas trees
  • Elementary School Art Contest: challenging children to express themselves through visual art
  • Special Olympics: providing volunteers and supplies for those with special needs
  • Heifer International: collecting spare change to provide sustainable livestock to families in poverty
  • Eggstraordinatry Outdoor Art Project: creating public awareness of SWC needs and activities while beautifying the community with public art
  • C.A.S.A.: preparing suitcases for children removed from their family home
  • Operation Christmas Child: preparing and collecting filled gift boxes for children in poverty in partnership with Samaritan’s Purse

We also support projects and organizations such as Forsyth County Miracle League, Relay for Life, Challenged Child, Family Haven, Jesse’s House, Treat the Troops, Forsyth County Public Library, March of Dimes, Ronald McDonald House, Hands Across Forsyth, Forsyth County Senior Center, Sojourner’s House, The Place, Garden of Empowerment and Cedar Hill Enrichment Center.

Is Sawnee Woman’s Club a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization?

Yes. SWC is a service organization under the guidance of the General Federation of Woman’s Clubs (GWFC) headquartered in Washington, D.C. The GWFC is the oldest non-denominational, non-partisan, international service organization of volunteer women in the world, with over 10 million members operating in 20 countries. There are 6,000 local Clubs in the U.S.
