International Outreach Department Update: April

Our next Treat the Troops packing is April 27, 7:00, at VFW Post 9140, 1045 Dahlonega HWY, Cumming GA 30040. If you are sending cookies, please pack them 6/bag that is tied at the top. You can also send individually bagged chips, gum, magazines, etc. It is always wonderful to send something to the special people!!

Another project that we can hopefully move forward with is Operation Smile. Internationally, doctors donate their time and expertise to correct cleft palates or cleft lips in children who are born with this. Approximately 1 in 700 children across the globe have twice the odds of dying because of this birth defect before their first birthday.

Operation Smile is an organization that provides gowns , treat bags, etc. to assist children and families who are facing these surgeries. Our club has already collected a quantity of fabric to use to make the products to send to Operation Smile. We are tentatively planning to schedule a “project “day to make products we can send to Operation Smile.

Since we all have special talents…it seems best to have some people cut fabric, some can measure and press seams, and some can sew the gowns and treat bags. Hopefully, we can find a suitable date that a number of people can attend and we can make many products to send so some little children will be more comfortable and happy following their cleft palate surgery!

International Outreach Department Update: March

An important project for us is Treat the Troops. Treats include: cookies packed 6/bag that is fastened at the top with a twist tie or ribbon; individually wrapped snacks i.e. chips, crackers, gum, etc…no chocolate or anything that might melt; personal hygiene items excluding bars of soap; and magazines.

The dates for the rest of the year are April 27, June 29, September 14, and January 9.

Also, if you are interested in making gowns or treat bags for the Operation Smile project, please let me know. We have fabric available to use, we just need someone to sew some very simple rectangles and/or gowns.
