Citizen Response Training at Cumming Police Department

February 27 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Free

SWC members are encouraged to attend. The regularly scheduled board meeting on this date is rescheduled to Monday, Feb. 24th so that members can attend this event.

The Cumming Police Department will present training on citizen response to active shooter environments from 6-8 p.m. on Feb. 27. There is no charge or signup required to take this course.

Created by Texas State University, this class is designed to help understand active shooter environments and teach techniques to help “avoid, deny, or defend” against an active threat.

“Since 2002, the Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training (ALERRT) Program at Texas State University has been used to train law enforcement officers across the nation in how to rapidly respond to dangerous active threat situations. Over the years we’ve seen response times shorten and the capabilities of law enforcement increase. As a result of increased public awareness, many citizens have asked what individuals can do protect themselves and reduce the dangers faced during one of these events. Avoid | Deny |Defend has been developed as an easy to remember method for individuals to follow. As we’ve seen that hiding and hoping isn’t a very effective strategy.”

Due to the serious nature of the material, instructors prefer that all attendees be at least 15-years-old. The class will be held at the Cumming Police Department, 301 Veterans Memorial Blvd.
